Sometimes we need a good daily reminder to keep us focused on what’s important. That’s why I love vision boards. But it could also be something simple like a quote. My sister used to have a daily saying, “Today is a great day, to have a great day!”. She even had it on a board in her kitchen for years. Now every time I see it somewhere I think of her. Words can be powerful.
A few weeks ago Nathan and I took our oldest son out on the town for his 11th birthday! While out shopping, we went to Hobby Lobby to pick him up some clay for his new hobby he’s been wanting to start. (side note, he’s a self-taught clay creator and is fantastic at it!) While there, Nathan and I strolled through the picture decor aisles and to see if we could find something to place above our bed. The wall there has been naked for far too long! My hubby found the perfect saying that was painted on two boards, “And So Together, They Built A Life They Loved”. Those two boards along with a black and white abstract wood painting and we have a beautiful display above our bed now.
More than just decoration, the words are what mean the most to us. After our separation over a year ago we decided to build up our marriage again from the ground up. We now set goals together, dedicate time for just us and envision what we really want as a couple and as a family. We want it to be a life we LOVE! It’s a great daily reminder to us that our hard work is worth it and we’re right where we want to be. I am more in love with my husband now than I ever thought possible. And the fact that he’s the one who picked out these decorations and took the time to go shopping with us speaks volumes! It’s all about the little things!
That day was so much fun with our son. We have never had a day with just one kid doing the things he’d want to do before. And having our kids see us working together and finding something that brings so much joy to us is so special. The boys, more than anyone, understand how important it is to have mommy and daddy happy together. Now we have these pictures to remind us of that special day and that making our family and marriage a priority is so important! So to us, it’s more than just a decoration on the wall. It’s a declaration of our love to each other and our boys. And now we’re looking forward to more decorations in the house!
I hope you find time today to seek joy in the little things. I’m a huge believer in the little things creating the big picture of our lives. Until my next post, have a fantastic perfectly imperfect day!
